The primary author of these writings is
a retired psychologist who in the spirit
of Freud, Jung, Fromm, and others became
intrigued with the mysteries of myth and
religion - especially their symbolic
significance and secret teachings.
For instance Jung's theory of the Self is
similar to the Hindu concept of "Atma"the
profoundest depth of the psyche where it
merges with Brahman" or universal essence.
This is not as far fetched as it might seem.
We are all connected to nature and the
cosmos. For, like all living things, we are
an intergal part of it ecologically and
physically - having finally emerged from the
same energy ground and the very dust of the
stars.
Jung saw the deeper Self as ultimately
emerging from an ineffable, archetypal
unconscious which made humanity collectively
drawn toward religious rites and symbols for
over a hundred millennia before our current
semi-secular age.
Moreover, it is now found that there does
appear to be a spiritual (i. e. deeper
religious) connection hard wired into the human
brain. (See The God Part of the Brain... by
Matthew Alper, and Why God Won't Go Away...
by
Andrew Newberg et al.)
Neither does this knowledge of an inner
connection conflict with the teachings of
ancient scripture. For not only do the
teachings of the Far East emphasize this
inner power; butthe Hebrew and
Christian
testaments are rife with such teachings
of a "Kingdom"or "Spirit" within. (See Gen.2:7; Exod.31:3;Job32:8;
Luke17:20-
21; 1Cor.3:16-17, 6:19; John 14:16-1
